The best piece of advice it to visit the campus early as well as participate in some recruiting events, whether it be Corps of Cadets, Academic, etc as it shows that you are motivated for the school. It is very competitive with the top 10% rule, but if you aren't there you still have a chance to get it. Another option would be Blinn Team (a community college) where you are co-enrolled.

I was top ten percent in my class which allowed for my automatic acceptance and really took the pressure off during application time!! Keep the grades up in high school for this perk, and to develop good study habits. The work won't help you, but the study skills are necessary.
